Rai Lay

Today we woke up, checked out of our guesthouse and had our last breakfast right on the beach in Koh Lanta. Another backpacker traveling for an undecided amount of time offered for me to stay a few extra months longer and travel as well... talk about tempting and living in the moment. I politely and sadly declined.

We then took a 2 hour bus from Koh Lanta to Krabi, then a private boat from Krabi to Rai Lay. Ray Lay is known for rock climbing and has some of the best rock climbing spots in the world, its beautiful. We checked into a guesthouse in the jungle, got some dinner, I had fried barracuda and morning glory then we walked around the beach checking out all the massive rocks.

Allll day Allll night

Not a bad day to wake up, eat breakfast on the beach, lay out, go for a swim and chill... alllll day.

Watch the sunset. Go for a sunset swim, then drink on the beach, sit under a canopy and watch a thunderstorm come and go.

After we showered we got some beers, listened to music and drank on our porch, while listening to the waves. We then took a walk down the beach, ran into Marcus our Aussie friend and ended up getting drinks with him and hanging out on the beach.

Dumb and Dumber take Koh Lanta

Today we woke up and rented a motorbike so we could venture around the island. I drove the whole time, because we figured Adrienne driving would not be the best idea.

We did that for about 6 hours, riding all around the island, through the jungles and over to the east side, to Old Town. Stopping a few times briefly. First stop for lunch, I got fish fillet in a curry and coconut milk right on the water. We also had to pull over for a 30 minute downpour and then also another minor stop, when our bike ran out of gas. Not a big deal, I pushed it some of the way to get gas nearby. It was quite the experience.

Riding so free over the hills, mountains, through the jungles, past beaches and elephants, it was beautiful.

We came back later for dinner, I got a papaya salad and we ran into a guy with met in Koh Phi Phi, from Australia, so we hung out with him and some others on the beach for the night and watched another fire show. Oh and I also found a frog friend and he hung with us for dinner as well.

Koh Lanta

After breakfast this morning we checked out of our bungalow on the beach and tried figuring out where to go next. We walked around to the local tour offices and decided to go an island called Koh Lanta, which we found out when we got here, Leonardo DiCaprio has a home here as well, which you better believe we are going to try to find. Anyway we took a boat about an hour from Koh Phi Phi, arrived and found a place to stay right on the beach, its adorable. Its a private little house about 15 seconds to the water, you can hear the waves crashing from our balcony.

We went to dinner on the beach by our bungalow, where I got fried sea bass in a sweet chili sauce and garlic, it was soooo good. Then they did fireworks right over our heads at the start of the fire show. The fire show was amazing, they spun the fire sticks and fire balls to music of their choice, my favorite was Billy Jean, and two Red Hot Chili Pepper songs.

Day of Snorkeling

Today we woke up bright and early to go on our half day island adventure. We loaded up on a boat and first went to monkey island where there were lots of monkeys just hanging out on the beach getting fruit from the tourists.

Then we headed to a cove with bright blue water to go swimming, after that we went snorkeling off a few different islands. One of them was called Maya Island where they filmed the movie, “The Beach,” with Leo DeCaprio. It was breathtaking. The water was the perfect temperature and the underwater life and colors that we saw were beautiful.

After a few hours snorkeling and swimming we headed back to land and got lunch. I got a sweet and sour chicken and vegetable dish, Adrienne got a fried noodle with beef and vegetable dish, both delicious.

We got ready for the night headed out and actually ran into a guy we became friends with in Bangkok and hung out with him at a rooftop bar and the beach for the majority of the night.

Koh Phi Phi

We woke up today and booked our boat trip to Koh Phi Phi. It was about a 2 hour boat ride and we sat outside on the side of the boat the whole trip. When we arrived we found a place to stay which is an adorable private bungalow right on the beach, very close to all the bars and restaurants.

We walked around to explore the area, got dinner, I got fried noodles with beef in a soy sauce. We then got ready for the night, watched the sunset and bar hopped to the many bars and clubs on the beach.

Beach Day in Patong

Today we woke up, went to the beach for about 7 hours, rented an umbrella and chairs and just relaxed all day. I got in the water many times throughout the day because it was so hot and the water was very warm, it wasn't really that refreshing but it was still a great dip.

After our beach day we went to dinner at a local restaurant and got a delicious large red snapper with vegetables in a sweet and sour sauce, morning glory and a large Chang beer of course.

The meal filled us up, so we walked around the street with some beers in disbelief of the insane nightlife. The streets are full of people, massive bars, many streets long, clubs, and lady boys, it was a great people watching location.

Hanging on the islands

Today we slept in, got brunch, then booked a trip for tomorrow snorkeling, around the different beaches in the area for half a day. We hung out on the beach for a bit and relaxed then headed out to dinner.

After dinner we went to a Muy Thai fight, then chilled out on the beach at some bars with lounge chairs, bonfires under the stars.

Off to Phuket

Today we woke up got breakfast at a local family owned restaurant ,where we got muesli with yogurt and fruit. The fruits included watermelon, banana, grapes, toasted walnuts, mango and pineapple, it was just what I wanted.

We then walked around the city a bit more, took a stroll by the “Three King Monument,” grabbed some lunch then took a taxi to the Chiang Mai International Airport for our flight at 7:00pm.

Our flight to Bangkok took off, and were served a meal on the short 1 hour flight, which of course we did not turn away. We landed in Bangkok and had a two hour layover and then took off for our 2 hour flight to Phuket at 10pm.

We arrived in Phuket around 11:00 smoothly got our luggage and were off to Patong where we stayed in a guesthouse right on the beach and right near all the bars and clubs.
