Tuesday night I arrived in Singapore
after almost 22 hours of travel time, to the adventure of finding
Adrienne in the Singapore airport. Can't say it was the simplest
reunion I've ever had, but after about an hour we finally found each
other and headed to Little India where we would be staying. That
morning we woke up and walked around most of the city going to China
Town, a hawker stand, where we got chicken and rice, that was on an
episode of Anthony Bourdaine's, “No Reservations,” walked through
Orchard street, which is the area with many huge malls, and then
walked along the water front called Marina Bay.
We quickly realized how hot it was
here, we thought we had been in extreme heat in Thailand but with the
humidity here, Thailand has nothing on Singapore. After a long day of
walking, we heading back for a quick nap, went to dinner, I got mee
goreng. It was delicious it was noodles, with vegetables and lamb and
a spicy sauce. We had a few local Tiger beers then we went out for
the night in Little India to a Bollywood bar. The next day we woke up
and headed out in a different direction went toward Arab Street
,visited a mosque then walked around the rest of the city. We got
Roti John for lunch which was toasted bread, egg and lamb with a
sweet/spicy sauce. We later went out to Marina Bay on the water and
watched a light show then went out for a bit to Boat Quay. Today we
are heading to Melaka by bus. Overall I'd say Singapore is a city,
with high rises, lots of construction, many people, great public
transportation, delicious food, a little more on the “expensive
side,” compared to other South East Asian countries we have been,
and super clean.
