We ended up leaving Kuta and heading
for Ubud on a holiday(which we didn't know about), therefore no buses
were running, so we got a car to take us about an hour north to Ubud
(the town that was on Eat Pray Love) It is a very chill, not so many
tourists, traffic, clubs/bars etc. It was just what we were looking
for.
When we arrived we went to lunch, I
got a ayam pelecing, which was sliced chicken, Balinese sauce with
cocnut milk and rice. The restaurant was playing very peaceful
meditation music, and they had tables and pillows that you could just
sit on the floor... very relaxing.
We walked around a bit and ended up
walking to the sacred monkey forest sanctuary, where there is more
than 605 masaque monkeys living. We walked through, and you could
feed or hold the monkeys at your own risk. They come very close, and
we even saw them jump on some visitors. Some of them were very
aggressive and the mothers were very protective of their babies.
When we got back to our stay, we
chatted with some Indonesian tourists, who told us a bit about this
holiday, and that the man who runs the place we are saying is a
famous priest of Ubud. That there were 50ish people parading through
the streets all day, making there way to our stay (to the temple
next door)to make an offering and to receive a blessing (from our
“stay dad”). We weren't allowed in the temple without proper
dress, but we did stand in the street and we watched the
people(mostly men dressed in white) parading to the ceremony.
