Snorkeling the Gili's

glass bottom boat

Today we had a full day of snorkeling around the Gili Islands. We took a boat to all three islands; Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno (turtle sea), then Gili Air. We had a glass bottom boat, but most of the time we sat in the front of the boat just enjoying the water and the sun. We dropped into the water and saw many colorful fish, coral, a blue starfish(so awesome), and sea turtles.

At one stop off of Gili Meno, this older man from our boat was in the water having trouble catching his breathe. He began yelling for “help,” from afar I yelled to him if he was ok, and he said he was not. I started swimming over to him because he was trying to float on his back and catch his breathe, but was away from both the rest of the group and our boat. By the time I tried swimming to him, a local man with a boat had gotten to him, and they brought him back to our boat. The man, and his wife, thanked me 3 times for being willing to help him, they were both so sweet.
We ate lunch on Gili Air, then heading back to Gili Trawangan after snorkeling for about 4 hours. We sat on our porch and listened to people play guitar, while we sang along to some of the songs and made requests, grabbed some dinner and beers at the night market, then headed out for the night.
